If building or assembling a loft is not allowed at your school another good idea is to raise your beds on cinder blocks or bed risers which will allow room to put storage bins and maybe a dresser underneath. This too is a great help and you would just use your bed as your seating too as it would not be up that high but allows enough space to store supplies and clothing under it.
Purchase closet organizers and vertical shelving units that fit in a closet too to make the most of your small spaces. Also, a behind the door clear shoe holder could hold toiletries for you and your roommate or other essentials freeing up the floor space. Many home stores now offer great options for living in small spaces like dorms.
